We both attended weddings, separately

June 22nd, 2008

The big boy attended his second cousin’s wedding on Saturday and I went for a wedding dinner on Sunday. While the big boy said he had a great time at the dinner, mine sucks.

It was such a boring wedding dinner. I don’t even know the bride and the groom!

The whole event was so comical, should I say? The guests were mostly the groom’s parents’ friends and relatives, the host and hostess acted like they were the focal of the day. They sang, danced and the groom’s mother went from one table to another like a butterfly!

Another pair of boots

June 19th, 2008

The big boy has flat feet, he dragged his feet during walking and that’s bad for his shoes. He kept saying he needs to get another pair of work boots this week because the pair he has right now are worn out again. Look like he must start looking for a job that gives allowance for him to get his work boots. :-)

Booking her next cruise on the new Mac?

June 3rd, 2008

Anna was having a stiff neck when I met her today at the bible study. We have last seen each other before she went off for a luxury cruise with her eldest daughter. She has so many stories to tell about her recent trip and the new Mac that her husband got for her. Looks like she is ready to book her next cruises on her new toy!

In fact I dropped by her house few weeks ago intended to consult her husband who is an oncologist about my health condition. She couldn’t talk to me as she was in a hurry to leave. The airport cab was going to pick her up and she would like to have a prayer with her children before she left. So, she asked her mom to “entertain” me. Her mom is an interesting woman, in her 70s, actively promoting some health products to me during our short conversation. :-)

The busy doctors

June 3rd, 2008

I was at the hospital accompanied my mom for a MRI scan, while mother was waiting for her turn, thought I would walk over to say hello to a friend MK, who is an eye specialist at the same hospital since his office is just across the hallway. The nurse told me he was at the emergency unit.

After the MRI, mom had to see the orthopedic and it was a long line. So, I thought I would try to drop by my friend’s office again. This time the nurse said he was doing a laser surgery.

I really admire all the busy doctors, everyday at work is like going to war and yet they can stay sane! I would have gone crazy with all this demands and attention to details. :-)

Would you take care of your smile

May 8th, 2008

The big boy recently had to go to the dentist to do some major work. He is such a procrastinator, he has waited too long, one of the teeth is beyond rescue and has to be pulled. The dentist also has to put crowns on three of them.

It’s perplexing to me, he has suffered through braces for years, eventually got a nice set of straight and white teeth that he often get complimented for, why doesn’t he take care of them? Would you pick the best among the Beverly Hills dentists to do all the cosmetic work for your teeth, but decided that brushing them after meals is too much work? That’s weird, isn’t it?

We will live there in our next life

May 6th, 2008

As I have said in my earlier posts, the big boy is “looking” for an apartment. We are going to move into a one or two bedroom apartment for a start. If we sell the house here, we would have enough down payment to buy a house. However, since we decided to keep it as rental property. We can’t afford to buy a new house or a condo yet.

It will take a while until we can afford one as nice as the house in the Virginia Gated Community. Water front property with scenic beauty of Smith Mountain Lake certainly doesn’t come cheap. I wonder if we need another lifetime to be able to afford such a nice house. Yeah, we will live there, in our next life, maybe? :-)

We don’t see ourselves flipping the furniture catalog or buy many furniture until we move into a permanent home. In fact, we plan to get most of the furniture used from garage sale and goodwill store. We are going to live in a rented apartment for a couple of years before we can afford to buy a house, so better save up so we can reach that goal faster.

Photos for the passport

January 3rd, 2008

Picked up the passport sized photos from the studio last night. Have decided not to put on makeup or even lipstick, so I do look a little pale in the photos. But, that’s me, take it or leave it! :-)

Did you ever get comments from the officers at the custom checking points that the person in the picture doesn’t look like you? I got that quite a few times.  I think it’s also because the picture on my passport was me with the permed curly hair, and now I have straight hair.

My dream home

January 2nd, 2008

Despite all the fears about the unknowns and the unseens, I am actually looking forward to the move to IL. The winter in the Midwest is going to be a dread to a girl who have grown up in the tropics and think the air-conditioned room is really cold.:-)

However, I am glad we are going to live in an area with vast farm lands and less air pollution than where we are now. Do you prefer to live in the city or a small town? I grew up on a farm in a small town and I am a farm girl at heart, I would rather live on a farm than in high rise condo. The big boy may not be rich and won’t be able to provide a lot of luxury stuffs, nor can we afford to fly around in Private Jet Charter Flights. But, I think buying a little house on the farm or buying a piece of vacant land to build a house is an attainable dream.

I have always dreamed of living on a little ranch house on the farm. The big boy may work outside of home to bring in the dough. I can work at home and at the same time raise chickens, grow vegetables and berries, sort of a semi self sufficient lifestyle. :-)

Say cheese

January 2nd, 2008

Have really been slack off to follow up with the immigration filings. Finally got out of the house and went to the studio to take passport sized photos. Have to take twice with two different backgrounds. That’s because the photos required by the US States Department have to be in white background and for the Malaysian passport must be in blue background. They have to be of different sizes too.

Ended up paying twice the amount. My passport has expired, need to renew it soon. All this immigration filings and passport application are going to burn a hole in my pocket!

What a bus journey

December 22nd, 2007

Decided not to drive but ride a bus to PJ. Left the house at around 2.00 p.m on Wednesday,  got to the bus station half an hour later. Bought the 3.30 p.m bus ticket. Since it was an hour of waiting, went for lunch and bought the newspaper to read. By the time I finished both lunch and reading the newspaper, the bus has arrived. The bus left at 3.45 p.m, 15 minutes later than the scheduled time.

The bus got on the highway, I felt asleep almost instantly. About an hour later, I woke up because the bus stopped. Well, this has never happened to me and I wasn’t sure how this could happen. The bus was running out of gas!!!

We were instructed to stay on the bus and waited for another bus to pick us up. Luckily, we didn’t have to wait too long. A bus from the same company came about half an hour later.  All of us got on the new bus and the driver continued the journey. We arrived at the destination an hour later. Phewy….

Los Angeles Criminal Defense

December 2nd, 2007

Coming from a country where lawyers and doctors are restricted by law to advertise their services. I am always amazed at the exact opposite that happen in America. Lawyers here advertise heavily and solicit feverishly to sign up clients.

They may be a lot of bad apples among the lawyers, but there is something fascinating about lawyers that makes us non-lawyers want to know more about the profession. Many of us probably get our first glimpse of the profession through popular TV series like L.A. Law, Alley McBeal and Kevin Hill, which have spiced up the plots and glamorized the profession.

One of the earliest and popular TV series based on stories of lawyers was LA Law, which chronicled the life of lawyers in a law firm in Los Angeles. I used to wonder how the mind of a Los Angeles criminal defense lawyer works…. and I still do, sometimes. Well, the cast is almost always beautiful and handsome, but the innocent couch potatoes probably have a not so realistic impression of lawyers and what they can do. :-)

The computer addicts and the housework idiots

October 30th, 2007

My landlady Mrs K came to collect rental and we chatted a bit. She was telling me about her daughter who is 20, studying in college and comes back during the weekend. She is going to fly to NZ to further her study in two months time.

Mrs K complained to me about her daughter, that she doesn’t do her laundry everyday and spend too much time online. It almost sounds like she was talking about me, and she sounds so much like my mother. LOL

My mother until today grumbles about me doing laundry once a week. She cannot stand the dirty laundry get accumulated until one whole basket. She likes to clear the laundry basket and do her laundry everyday. I tried to convinced her that it saves water and thus more environmentally friendly to have one whole load instead of washing a few pieces of garments everyday. But, she calls that laziness like Mrs K. :-)

It’s hard for people like Mrs K and my mother to understand why people spend so much time in front of the computer. My dad used to grumble about that too, until he himself got hook on the internet and now he sees him downloading all sort of stuffs from torrents. He is more expert than anyone of us when it comes to torrent.

However, my mother has learned to accept the fact that computer is just like television, people get addicted to it. She is alright with me getting online now as she knows I am working, not just socializing or solely for entertainment.

Happy happy news

October 22nd, 2007

Happy news, this blog is getting a PR1 during the recent update. I thought Granny G was playing a practical joke on me. This blog hardly have any traffics and it’s so new, the links are far and between as well. But, since granny G decided that it’s worth ranking it, then I would spend more time here.:-)

Will try to get this blog into a few networks. I know some of my friends who have multiple blogs usually get multiple assignments on discount Disney World tickets when the tasks come out or assigned. Hurray, let’s hope that granny G would not come smacking on this blog!
