Multi-purpose shower chair

November 15th, 2008

My mother in law is going to have knee replacement surgery next year. I bet she  won’t be so mobile for a while and may need a little assistance moving around. I wonder how she is going to take her shower. Will she need a shower chair?

Don’t you think this is wonderful for someone who would like to maintain independence after surgery? It’s also a nice little stool to have around even if you don’t need it in the shower for it’s true intent!

Imagine, if you have a small built in shower and you can’t shave your legs and you just need to prop them up! Great! When you don’t need it, it is small enough to sit right outside the shower stall and throw your clothes on them, sit and put your shoes on and do your make up. If you need it in another room for whatever…it’s also light enough to drag around.

Fire arms at an estate sale

November 6th, 2008

We have been shopping at the resale and thrift stores looking for a used dresser lately.  We like to go to garage and estate sales to look for bargains too. Two weeks ago, before we bought the LG dryer, while we were drying down to a neighboring town to look at a used dryer we found on craiglist.com, we saw signs of a estate sales.

We decided to stop. It was a big house with many nice furniture, but were a bit over priced in our opinion, so we didn’t buy anything. The owner of the house has tons of hunting equipments, branded hunting apparels including Galco holsters at the basement. We were quite shocked because it was probably illegal for this people to sell fire arms at the estate sales like that.

Looking for a job as new immigrant

November 1st, 2008

Still waiting for the SS card to come in the mail. Can’t get a driver license until I have the SSN. I can’t wait to get a driver license so I won’t be house bound when T is at work. Plan to start to look for a job as soon as the SS card comes in the mail. In this current market, it might not be so easy to get a job that matches my qualifications. I don’t mind taking a job that is “beneath” me as a start.

I am going to apply for clerical/secretarial job at the local university and community college. I think I have enough computer and clerical skills to take up this kind of jobs. Hopefully, that will help to get one foot into the door. I hope to eventually able to teach math in the university or community college with my Masters degree.

Some new immigrants have to go back to school to get American accreditation in order to practice their profession. I know of a woman who was an experienced beautician and used to run a successful beauty parlor and saloon business in Japan. When she first arrived here seven years ago, she had to enroll herself into a beauty school like those beauty schools in texas to get the right qualification to work in her field!

Taking time off work for vacation

August 22nd, 2008

If the visa gets approved next week, I should be leaving for IL right after that and we will be finally be reunited in the second week of September. The big boy said he plans to take one week off work in the end of September or first week of October for us to go away for a vacation. cum honeymoon. He said he planned to have us to go up to the lake and stay at one of the quiet bed and breakfast place for 2-3 days. It certainly doesn’t sound like his style of vacation. :-)

He is a Leo who likes places with a lot of actions, entertainment and excitement,. Branson, Missouri, the Live Entertainment Capital of the World, which has  theme parks with exciting rides and attractions, is more like his cup of tea! May be he should check into the various vacation packages available at Branson Getaways.  Apparently, they can even custom design a package to meet your specific needs. Or, if we are lucky we  may win a FREE 3 day 2 night Branson vacation with this entry. :-)
